I'm going to keep pointing out the problem that Democrats do not want to govern. To have a democracy, we need politicians and political parties who want to govern. Otherwise private concentrations of power, or worse, no one, will.https://twitter.com/matthewstoller/status/972840596820852742 …

The bill to deregulate Wall Street isn't actually getting rid of rules. It's getting rid of *public* rules. It's about letting Wall Street, not our democracy, govern. Regulators could organize public rules for small banks, but to do that Democrats would have to want to govern.

I think it's ideological and intellectual, the way 1970s libertarianism works in the center and the left. Neither party believes in the legitimacy of public power, but the GOP just says it, while the Democrats twist themselves in knots to get there.https://twitter.com/Casual_Obs/status/972845717889757185 …

In the center, libertarianism is justified by terms like 'moderate' and 'pragmatist'. On the left, libertarianism is justified by by arguments like 'money in politics' and fetishization of grassroots movement building over policy. It's all libertarianism.https://twitter.com/Casual_Obs/status/972845717889757185 …

The idea that politicians must be forced to do things via a grassroots social movement is a libertarian notion. It's absurd. It's a straightforward incentive for corruption.

The constant refrain that politicians only respond to money is another variant of libertarianism, it's the left's addiction to powerlessness. Sometimes money matters, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes there's money on both sides. But character and ideas are real things too.

This is the left seeming to speak justice, but actually justifying aristocracy. I mean, if it's all power and money, then why bother? Democracy does not exist in this formulation. This is what it means to not want to govern.https://twitter.com/UltraVerified/status/972850041571479555 …

I have to say, as I’m canvassing my district, my being libertarian (small L) and speaking to people directly is very, very supported. People are surprised I’m at their door and support me 90% of the time whether they’re right or left.
