Yes. And we have 1/6 of Brazil’s despite them having about 1/15th the firearms as us. In both cases, it’s socioeconomics at play. Higher poverty rates and other socioeconomic inequalities = gun homicides.

That’s an apples & orange comparison. Brazilian kid aren’t being slaughtered at school. Also, why are you so afraid to at least try to fix something so clearly broken?

I’m not afraid. Again, Brazilian kids might not be killed *at school* but they’re killed at a much higher rate, generally. Gun laws won’t fix this problem here. Fixing socioeconomics will. That’s why.

Here’s what I actually am afraid of: That we’ll expend tons of political capital to pass gun laws that will not actually do anything to address the problems we face, and *may* make the overall problem worse. I’d rather *directly* fix the problem using healthcare/socioeconomics.

I agree that healthcare and a genuine social safety net would do much to improve things. That said, limiting firearm access as well as eliminating weapons solely designed for mass murder has got to help.

It would definitely help if it were possible. Problem is, it’s not. We have over 320 million *unregistered* firearms here. We don’t even know where they are. And at least 10 million of those are ARs. You can’t put toothpaste back into the tube.

Australia did. And it’s an entire continent founded by convicts.

“Founded by convicts” hundreds of years ago has no bearing on this. They *voluntarily* turned in 600,000 weapons nearly all of which were already registered. For perspective, that’s 1/533 of the *minimum* number of *unregistered* guns here. We have over 533 times as many!

Second amendment 1791. Australian convict settlement between 1788 & 1868. So you are seriously stating your country can’t do as well, let alone better. Why? Don’t spout poverty. Your country spends billions on guns. You love your guns more than your children. That is just wrong.

You’re hurling accusations. Yet... 533 times as many guns. Care to address this point?
