That it was the President who shamed him. We're all capable of doing the job, but when it comes from that office, it's worse. Don't be surprised if this guy eats a bullet.

I'm not defending his behavior. As I noted - repeatedly - I agree that he should be ashamed. Rather, I think that it is appropriate for the White House to refrain from piling on. The rest of us are doing a great job of expressing our contempt. I suspect that no one is confused.
Ok. Well, you’ve repeated that position, but it still doesn’t make sense to me why you think the president shouldn’t shame someone who deserves shame. People who choose positions of power must be held to a *higher* standard. That includes cops, politicians, and more.

Because I think the maximal size of his megaphone adds maximal cruelty to the penalty. If there were even marginal value to be gained by adding more cruelty to the equation, I would at least see the utility of it. This isn't about being nice, btw. It's about character and limits.

But seriously, I don't care enough to keep arguing the point. He fucked up to an unfathomable degree. Mileage will vary on whether it was necessary for POTUS to join the madding crowd by pointing it out. I guess I'd just like it if, for once, he chose to be better than us.
