Remember how cable news during the Obama years, dedicated wall-to-wall coverage to stagnanting wages, the growing wealth gap, skyrocketing student loan debt, the gig economy, continued medical bankruptcies, the expansion of predatory lending, and the increasing body count abroad?

I sure don’t.

I remember hearing about Obama’s marvelous recovery right up until Donald Trump won Florida.

It’s pretty disingenuous of people like @PhilippeReines to make outrageous claims like ‘Bernie wouldn’t have happened without Russia.’ It reveals an almost pathological detachment from what Rolling Stone dubbed the “retail class.” Of course, I prefer the term “working people.”

2016 was a year of outsider candidates because Democrats ran on “America is already great”—a slogan they had no reason to doubt given the media’s deferential love affair with the Obama administration. Trump happened because at every level, the adults in the room let America down.

And if @MSNBC’s current programming is any indication, they’re set to make the same mistakes again. Trump is a good boogeyman...for 2018. But people are already asking questions like ‘Why didn’t the Democrats protect Dreamers?’ and ‘Why do they only talk about Russia?’
