You have 98,000 schools in the US...I'm assuming that you would need more than one per school, plus some back ups for holiday, and sick days. Call it 4 per school (and I am just guessing at that). You have that many Air Marshals you can adequately provide to do this? 1/2

Because I also understand that the ones on flights are rotated because you can't protect every flight. Is that what you would do with schools? That seems a big roll of the dice. Or would areas be profiled to decide which would be more likely to have a problem?

First, it wouldn’t be a paid position. It would be volunteer, with expenses covered. Second, I don’t believe there’d have to be one at every school. I think just allowing it would prevent many school shootings because these gunmen pick gun-free zones for exactly this reason. 1/2

Schools are soft targets because guns are banned, and armed security is easy to spot. By default, this policy would “harden” schools in the perception of potential mass shooters, deterring them from that target. 2/2

I'm pretty sure that most would be shooters go in thinking that they will likely be killed, or kill themselves. How is an AM there a deterrent? From what I can see, they go in and try to inflict as much damage as they can in as little time (hence the popularity of the AR15). 1/2

Whether an AM is there or not, is really irrelevant, when the perpetrator think they're going to die anyway.

Then why don’t they ever target gun shows? Police stations?

Well they have targeted military bases...And because the optics of someone gunning down and slaughtering children is more horrific.

Soldiers don’t walk around bases armed.

That's more or less true (I'm a military brat so will agree with that one to a degree). You do however have to get through the gates and there are armed guards there.

The people who have shot up bases were personnel allowed on base.
