There are no gun laws in the books anywhere that would’ve prevented him from buying the firearm due to mental illness unless he was deemed violent by his psychiatrist *and* reported into the system as such. He wasn’t. The FBI could’ve stopped him but “didn’t follow protocol.”

No gun laws in the books anywhere is the problem. Pass the law. If you can ban lawn darts, I'm sure someone somewhere can come up with a law that addresses this.

Lawn darts were not guaranteed by the constitution. Nor was there a massive market for them. Nor were there more lawn-dart sets than people.

True. You get my point though, making such an asinine comparison. Will changing he gun laws be difficult? Yes. Will it be worth it, if it stops just one school shooting? Yes. Do the work. Healthcare reform, and tougher gun laws.

If the new gun laws prevent good people from arming themselves for self-defense, and as a result, for example, 18 people are killed in situations where they could’ve otherwise defended themselves, and the law prevents one shooting like the last one, the 2nd answer is no.
