Or every two years. If during that recertification process, red flags such as domestic abuse, drug use, or any other violent behaviour comes up recertification doesn’t happen. Gun ownership needs to be a privilege, not a right. And there needs to be accountability.

Then you’re going to need to amend the constitution if you want to remove the right to bear arms.

And that’s the problem, isn’t it? The constitution has amendments because it needs to be an evolution. The 2A was instituted in a time when there wasn’t the caliber of weapons there is today nor the access to police protection. That’s changed. So it needs to evolve. 1/2

I don’t believe the right to bear arms needs to be done away with, but certainly it needs to be adjusted to fit with the times.

The 2nd Amendment was created to make sure “the people” could always fight back against their own government, actually. So, give all the police and national guard muskets and then muskets will seem reasonable for us.

I guess I don’t live in the same dystopian society you do. And in the meantime people are dying and nothing gets done about it. Thats not the answer.

People are dying from lots of things. And we should make efforts to prevent all premature, preventable deaths. Example: Under the ACA (Obamacare), 3000 people die every month for lack of health insurance. 36,000 per year. Shouldn’t we be concentrating on Universal Healthcare?

Well the conversation started around gun control. But yes. Healthcare should be addressed. And again they aren’t mutually exclusive. Do both.

Thing is, universal healthcare would also majorly lower gun deaths through mental healthcare (2/3 of all gun deaths are suicides). Suicides and mass shootings are both major mental-health issues. As are many other types of gun deaths, such as domestic violence.

Wow. I had no idea that the suicide rate was that high. That’s incredibly sad. I’m all for Universal Health Care. Again. Do both. And just for the record between 1997 and 2004 mass shootings declined. AR ban was 1994 to 2004. There is a correlation.pic.twitter.com/kbTvAQxEEM

They didn’t decline. That’s manipulation of statistics. They declined from 2 to 1. Meaningless numbers to cite a rate decrease. And most mass shootings prior to the last few were committed using handguns anyway.
