Banning things doesn’t make them unavailable.

But it does make them less prolific. And that’s a start. Why is taking one step so difficult?

Stop selling them. Institute a buy back on certain gun types. Perhaps not as heavy handed as Australia. I don’t believe in a total ban. And the stricter certifications. Like Japan. Tight certification on who can own a gun. And being recertified on a yearly basis 1/1

Or every two years. If during that recertification process, red flags such as domestic abuse, drug use, or any other violent behaviour comes up recertification doesn’t happen. Gun ownership needs to be a privilege, not a right. And there needs to be accountability.

Then you’re going to need to amend the constitution if you want to remove the right to bear arms.

And that’s the problem, isn’t it? The constitution has amendments because it needs to be an evolution. The 2A was instituted in a time when there wasn’t the caliber of weapons there is today nor the access to police protection. That’s changed. So it needs to evolve. 1/2

I don’t believe the right to bear arms needs to be done away with, but certainly it needs to be adjusted to fit with the times.
