The funny thing is that Progressives understand the fight for increase in rights. They live for it. So why is a gun owners rights different? Can they at least start to understand the intensity of the desire to protect their rights. Can we start the dialogue there?

So do I. We have common ground. But the first thing that occurred to me with Sandy Hook was different from most others on the left. Most people thought, “How could we allow him to get those guns?” I don’t wonder that. We have over 320 million unregistered guns in circ here. 1/2

My first reaction was: “How was there nobody there to shoot the shooter?!” We call cops because they have guns. Cops waited over 5 min to enter the school while shooting was happening. Pandora’s Box is open. We need to address the world as it is, not as we wish it were. 2/2

At least 2 responses to your question have been revealed during previous events: 1) there WAS someone with a gun who either was killed or in the wrong place, so how many is enough? 2) How can you tell if a guy with a gun is the original gunman or a "good guy"? Whom do you shoot?

1) No solution is a 100% fix. That said, I think the solution is “School Marshals” not uniformed security. They just become the first target, or the person to avoid. 2) Good guy will put down the weapon and put his hands up upon police arrival. Bad guy will shoot at them.

Steve - what about a multi-pronged approach - school marshalls, tighter background checks, no more military grade weapons being manufactured for public consumption?

Gun education incoming: The top firearm here is an AR. Bottom is an M14. Both can carry the same number of rounds. Bottom gun fires the bullet on the right. Top gun fires the one on the left. Same rate of fire. Assault-weapons bans only ban the AR because of the pistol grip. 1/2pic.twitter.com/tT7ss8fDwl

The 5.56 round the AR fires will usually fragment just hitting a drywalled interior wall. The 7.62 round will go through an engine block. The bottom weapon is *way* more lethal. But it doesn’t look scary so it’s not threatened to be banned. 2/2

Does the rifle with the bigger round shoot multiple rounds quickly?

Exact same rate of fire, yes.
