There's a strong correlation between "people who demand the abolition of anonymity on social media" and "people whose wealth enables them to never even think about whether a tweet could compromise their economic security"

I've always used my real name and picture on here, and I'm *not* wealthy. At all. I don't even *have* a savings account. Why would it be so bad for everyone to say who they are?

There are also tons of examples where safety is a concern from family/institutions/states who disapprove of someone's lifestyle.

I already stated that whistleblower type communication anonymously is understandable.

Not just whistleblowers, either, there are tons of situations where anonymity is important — consider people who have left abusive husbands/parents/families and high control religious/political groups.

I guess I don't understand the connection between those things and specifically posting things on social media.

I grew up raised in a religious cult. Anonymous social media use enabled me to find people who previously left the group and find support.

Ok. That's good, obviously. To be clear, I'm a small l libertarian (not the party, just the belief that people should be free). I'm not advocating any sort of government regulations against online anonymity. 1/2

Just look at YouTube comments. There *are* a *lot* of people who use anonymity's lack of accountability to make life worse for other people out of malice, or boredom. We would all benefit from the end to that. We could police it ourselves as a society and shame shitty anons. 2/2
