I've just got to get something off of my chest that is really bothering me: I have a fundamental world view that *all* people are the same. All. We have our occasional "weirdos" of a few types, but they're mostly harmless, and everyone else is the same.

They all want to feel they belong in their society; that they aren't outcasts. They all want to contribute in a unique way to that society; they want to matter. And they all want safety for themselves, their family, and their community. All people.

Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, white, black, brown, gay, straight, male, female, transgender, skinny, fat, rich, poor, alt-right, Antifa... All people want those three things. Because all people are the same. Those three things are the base of what we *are*.

Everything I believe is based on this core philosophy. All of my social and political opinions are based on my knowledge of the data, and the fact that *all* people of *all* "types" are the *same*.

So it's bad enough to see white supremacists who believe black and brown people are "subhuman" and therefore *lesser* than them. But it's expected. They have "supremacist" right there in the title. That means "better than you." It's obvious, and it's easy to spot, and to fix.

But the thing I hate the most, and this is going to piss some people off, is that people would turn around and look at the racists with the same "supreme" indignation. People seem to want to think that a racist's ignorance makes them lesser. Unworthy of consideration. Subhuman.

It's as if their ignorance is contagious. As if the objects of their ignorance caught it, too. And I can't accept that. Nobody is "lesser". People are people. As soon as we can be convinced that *any* set of people is lesser than *any* other, intolerance tears us apart.

This sounds like some hippy-dippy stuff, but folks... C'mon. We need to talk to each other. Really communicate. Speak *and* listen! Listen. Empathize. As soon as we talk, we see we're the same. Same problems, same troubles, same fears, same desires.

I'd take this over a stupid congressional seat any day. That job's going to take a lot of work to do it well! And if we all talked to each other, the government would fix itself in just a few election cycles anyway.
We can do a lot better than this.1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 1 polubionyPokaż ten wątekDziękujemy. Twitter skorzysta z tych informacji, aby Twoja oś czasu bardziej Ci odpowiadała. CofnijCofnij
