Hypothesis -- GOP is betting low- and middle-income people care more about absolute well-being than relative well-being. Dems planning to run against the tax plan are betting that's wrong. There's an element of the "Ultimatum Game" here. #DoesFairnessMatter?
As far as I'm concerned, the problem is that the Democrats aren't opposing this for principled reasons. It's purely about trying to gain power for themselves and their donors (but mainly themselves, as most of their donors are Republican donors as well).
