In the real world, bulk data collection of Americans is the opposite of what America purports to be. In Manning's case, Manning didn't expose people OR tech. Why was Manning jailed and not anybody who did the things Manning exposed?

And, God forbid you ever actually have to fight in combat or take life and death decisions, as you might just figure out the world’s not as black & white as your smug, self righteous ass thinks it is.

Right and wrong are black and white. Liberty is black or white. Truth is, too. To claim otherwise is an attempt to justify doing the wrong thing.

Wow, you must really struggle in daily life. One man’s truth is another man’s heresy. I put my life on the line for the ideals and potential this country represents. The truth of this country and what it takes to protect it and keep it together is neither clear or pretty.

What ideals, specifically? CIA and NSA people have sat around looking at Americans' naked selfies for fun. Nobody was punished for it. Is that okay with you? Let me ask you this: When did you learn the WMDs Iraq had were sold to Iraq by us?

The ideals of equality and relative freedom, safe from harm and in a society where the majority can prosper. All in the context of governance of human beings that are more tied to emotion than logic and are imperfect and often selfish.

"Relative" freedom? Who decides what liberties to infringe upon? The intelligence community? That's known as tyranny. You can't keep us "safe from harm." I'm 100% tied to logic over emotion. FYI.

You’re not Spock. And even if your are more logical than most, that does not change the fact that humans are emotional beings and logic is often the least effective tool to influence and lead. And we decide the limits of freedom via our laws. We restrict freedoms every day.

What laws allowed warrantless bulk data collection on Americans?

That would be post 9/11 executive orders and patriot act as interpreted by elected officials and, to some extent, the courts.
