Those both used the same study from 50 years ago. Weapons are *supposed* to change your behavior. If someone breaks into your house, with a gun you'll be more likely to step up and stop them rather than cower in your room. You know?

They both reference other studies too, right? I'm not sure they are supposed to impact your decision making in the ways the studies describe. Or if they are, that that is a good thing.

It's a matter of the confidence of a perceived advantage. This would happen to some professional fighters in bars, body builders, people who know martial arts... It's not a gun thing, it's a people thing.

That's a fine assumption. It makes sense. Not sure I agree it is that simple, but these are just opinions. As to a fighter in a bar, to me that's a bit silly. Lots harder to become that fighter than owning a gun, efficacy of gun damage far greater to more people...

Whether that's true or not doesn't really matter. We likely have between 420 and 650 million guns in circulation here. Any solution that involves ridding the country of any number of guns is not a realistic solution.

I don't agree with that.

Why? Guns don't biodegrade. They aren't going anywhere. And the majority are completely unregistered. What feasible way is there to reduce that number through legislation?

Buybacks, confiscation after crimes, get creative. Hard doesn't mean impossible. Further, if slow down the introduction and accumulation of new guns, you can stop kicking the can down the road, though that's justvmt pipe dream.

Buybacks don't work. Only broken guns get turned in. They are confiscated after crimes. I feel like you're not grasping the numbers. There are less than 1 million arrests for gun-related crimes per year. Over 100 million gun owners and (roughly) 500 million guns.
