I think generalizing was the thrust of the study, but I'd have to reread (or find it). Generally, people were more confrontational, etc when carrying a gun. Not sure if weapons in general were differentiated, but no doubt people were more confident with any weapon than without

I'd love to see the study. People generally are going to be more confident if they feel they're at an advantage.

This wasn't what I remember, but it is the first thing I found...haven't finished reading it yet, but in the interest of sharing... https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/get-psyched/201301/the-weapons-effect …

Those both used the same study from 50 years ago. Weapons are *supposed* to change your behavior. If someone breaks into your house, with a gun you'll be more likely to step up and stop them rather than cower in your room. You know?

They both reference other studies too, right? I'm not sure they are supposed to impact your decision making in the ways the studies describe. Or if they are, that that is a good thing.

It's a matter of the confidence of a perceived advantage. This would happen to some professional fighters in bars, body builders, people who know martial arts... It's not a gun thing, it's a people thing.

That's a fine assumption. It makes sense. Not sure I agree it is that simple, but these are just opinions. As to a fighter in a bar, to me that's a bit silly. Lots harder to become that fighter than owning a gun, efficacy of gun damage far greater to more people...

Whether that's true or not doesn't really matter. We likely have between 420 and 650 million guns in circulation here. Any solution that involves ridding the country of any number of guns is not a realistic solution.

I don't agree with that.

Why? Guns don't biodegrade. They aren't going anywhere. And the majority are completely unregistered. What feasible way is there to reduce that number through legislation?
