I saw that, your webpage took so long to load, I thought maybe it was fake ... heh. Am reading your positions now, safe to assume I'll see your a holistic improvement plan there? Or is it Twitter lip service?

Certainly a thought out position staking out guns, the things, not being the problem. A lot of stats to wade through. And kudos for trying to make the change you believe in.

It seems like your stats based approach ignores some societal differences...swiss conscription leading to a trained population, whatever influences time stats in Russia vs Honduras, etc. Maybe that's your point?

Those differences don't make someone shoot up a school or commit a drive-by against a rival gang. Being poor, lacking available mental healthcare, having a criminal record for a victimless crime previously... Those might make someone do those things.

No, does not account for motivation...just efficacy, right?

Both. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Gang members are born the same as everybody else. Circumstances make them gang members. The war on drugs causes the violence there.

Agreed, but that's just motivation for violence. I've seen studies that show people behave differently when holding guns (more bravado, more confrontational), but I haven't ever really thought that guns cause violence, just honed the efficiency of it.

Some people will act differently while holding *any* kind of weapon, I'd imagine. I think that was definitely the case with that idiot Zimmerman. But I don't think it's a general truth.

I think generalizing was the thrust of the study, but I'd have to reread (or find it). Generally, people were more confrontational, etc when carrying a gun. Not sure if weapons in general were differentiated, but no doubt people were more confident with any weapon than without

I'd love to see the study. People generally are going to be more confident if they feel they're at an advantage.
