1) You can be in favor of the second amendment and still despise the NRA. 2) The percentage of people who want to violate the constitution is inconsequential. Which is the point of the Bill of Rights. 3) If we could ban things due to "style", first to go: Joe's glasses.https://twitter.com/joenbc/status/930845633535234055 …

Reasonable, common-sense gun violence prevention measures do not violate the Second Amendment. You may want to re-read Heller.

Can you name one of these measures being proposed which has proven to actually prevent violence?

There are dozens of ideas, each of which pass Second Amendment muster. These include, among other things, universal background checks, safety training requirements, provisions relating to mental health and domestic violence records, etc.

To be clear, I asked about measures proposed that have been proven to reduce gun violence. Background checks, while a good idea generally, only impact a small percentage of gun violence, which doesn't include mass shootings. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2015/12/10/marco-rubios-claim-that-no-recent-mass-shootings-would-have-been-prevented-by-gun-laws/?utm_term=.7eed36eec4ee …

Safety training would prevent many accidental shootings, but the people generally who need that training aren't the people who own the guns. They're kids who happen upon guns in someone else's home. Can we teach gun safety in school? Democrats say no.

As for mental-health reporting, that's already in place. Problem is: You need a diagnosis, and you need it reported. http://lawcenter.giffords.org/gun-laws/policy-areas/background-checks/mental-health-reporting/ …

From that link: "In 2005, of the total number of prospective purchasers who were denied following an FBI background check, only 0.5% were denied for mental health reasons. By 2010, this number had risen to 1.8%."

Domestic violence records are also reported, as long as there's a conviction. Problem is, convictions aren't easy to come by, and obviously there's the issue with the Texas Church shooter's deal not getting reported at all... You see the problem, right, Brian?
