It's not classism to assume people have a telephone before they have a computer and Internet.

At first it could've been ignorance but at this point more than 2 people have corrected you & yet ur still calling it a "fact" so now it is!

Yes in some rural parts of the USA internet access is indeed harder & less plentiful than phone, but there,u'll find folks without either 1!

They're not correcting me. They're wrong. All houses and apartments are wired for telephones.

Yep wired, doesn't mean the wires work nor that they have the $ for it. Homeless shelters don't allow residents to use the phones either!

Having telephones active, landlines, costs money, in my area it's about = cell vs land, so most don't bother with landline!

To have local calling, receiving calls from anywhere, and the ability to call 911, costs very little money. Less than $10/mo.
