It actually is a word. It dates back to early 20th century America, though it has not enjoyed wide acceptance.
It was declared a word *because* so many people were incorrectly using it.

Very true. But it is, in fact, a word. Is it an acceptable word? That is the argument. Personally, I choose not to use it. English major.

That's all I was saying. Using that word, to me, is like using "literally" like: "This is literally the best coffee ever..."
