So my position is: F*ck your shame and your white guilt. You don’t get to hide it away somewhere. This is our shame. Own it. FIX IT. 16/34

In the society I’m working toward, the statues would stay in place, but the racism wouldn’t. Fix the people, not the “optics”. 17/34

And the statues would remain up as a daily reminder to white people of the terrible legacy we bring with us. 18/34

We would feel that shame forever. Because we need it, and we deserve it. And in this future I’m hoping to build... 19/34

I’d hope that it would be the white people wanting to take down the statues, and the people of color stopping us from doing it. 20/34

This is our heritage. This is our history. This is our reality. It’s dangerous to allow it to be moved out of the public consciousness 21/34

We need to cut out the problem at its roots. Racism is an idea borne of ignorance. You can’t cure ignorance through force. 22/34

You can only cure ignorance through education. And you can only educate people willing to listen to you. 23/34
