Racism is abhorrent, ignorant and ugly. But racists are not irredeemable. They can change. The only cure for ignorance is education. 10/

You can't educate by force. You can't defeat ideas by force. You can only defeat them through dialog. So, I understand why people 11/

want to tear these statues down. I understand the pain these statues represent. But I'm asking people to look farther down the line 12/

Ah - I see. The issue here is that not everyone has the luxury of being able to look further down the line.

The statue could be educational to some, but it IS horrifying to those it affects right now.
