You missed the whole point. No one's doing it for the racists.

They're doing it for the people forced to see the people who bought, sold, raped, murdered, tortured their ancestors on honored pedestals.

The statue they tore down was a soldier, not a general. The soldiers didn't own slaves. They were poor, too.
