The war ended 150 years ago. Today, we need to end racism, not the civil war.

Can you see the continuum though? That while the war ended they system fought on, enshrining discrimination into our laws and society?

Ending racism is a great goal, but it's like only looking for a vaccine while people are still dying from the disease.

And tearing down statues is like putting the diseased out of view.

Let me ask you something, Steve. How do you expect to move forward with respectful new relationships w/o racism-while upholding racist idols

Which are reminders to Indigenous and Black people whose own histories and realities have been altered and upended by monumentalized people.

Imagine an enlightened world where people are truly ashamed of racism. Then, in that world, look at those statues. What do they represent?

You're imagining a world where people educate themselves. Maybe take a look around and understand that this is not our reality.
