That was Germany's call. In an enlightened society, those things would be looked at as the shameful relics they are. Nothing more.

An enlightened society would not put them up in the first place and murder 12 million people. Hence why they had to come down.

Enlightened society doesn't own slaves So part of becoming enlightened is tearing down monuments that celebrate this.

Enlightenment is in people's hearts and minds. Not statues or symbols. Tearing down statues is an ineffective substitute for enlightenment.

So you don't think hearts and minds are at all influenced by what monuments are displayed in public?

I think that influence depends on what you're taught. I see those statues as a warning. They're what has been, and could be again.

Is that why the Nazis showed up to protest their removal because they're a warning not be racist?
