So Germany should just have left up all the monuments to Nazism after ww2 right?
That was Germany's call. In an enlightened society, those things would be looked at as the shameful relics they are. Nothing more.

An enlightened society would not put them up in the first place and murder 12 million people. Hence why they had to come down.

Obviously it wasn't enlightened during the Nazi era. But if it is now, the symbols wouldn't matter. Symbols don't cause problems. People do.
