I don't think people are making the argument, in the real world, that electric cars fight pollution. The push is about climate change.

Air pollution, specifically. If particulates float up into the air, then fall to the pavement, they're not "air pollution" are they?

Yes. So it's not a good idea to suck on a any internal-combustion engine's exhaust. This is true. Not sure who was advocating such, though.
