It blows my mind when people claim the United States isnt a democracy. Who started this stupid rumor?! Its a ridiculous false dichotomy.

A republic and a democracy aren't the same things. A democracy is "majority rules", as in two wolves and a lamb voting on what's for lunch.
In other words, "democracy" is tyranny of the majority over the minority. This is a republic, not a democracy.
