The fact that you have to justify yourself to that effect fucking baffles me. Everybody gets help or support for everything they do. Period. That is how humans work. What's next, having to justify using Google?

Right?? I don't see ANY other makers having to justify any of this. Makes me so mad.

100% I ask for help ALL THE TIME.

IMO if you’re a maker and you’re not helping other people / asking for help, it’s a problem! Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I want to be on Wechat with all the Chinese engineers...

As a software developer I prefer colleagues who ask for help over those who don't. Me, I'll always try to figure things out by myself, but I will ask others what they think if I hit a wall. It's the only sane thing to do and applies to making too.

Any code of ethics that intentionally devalues collaboration are bullshit. Letting people find their way is a way to teach each other, sure. But that's not about gatekeeping the "real" makers, it's about depth of learning. Ignore the gatekeepers. Build together.

LOL! You would get more help than that at a western maker space- pointing out the exact wire is fine. CAD drawings are over the top though, sketches are fine. There’s no such thing as a fake maker unless someone does it for you. Help does not make it fake.

Like every hacker/maker/engineer re-invented the wheel. We'd be inefficient if we didn't ask for help or reuse what's been done before to input into our creativity.

As a programmer I don't see why people would be upset with you asking for advice (even though you haven't needed it). The work done within the community benefits us all, and as such if someone has a great idea and got stuck on the implementation then it benefits all to help them.

I learn about making by *asking for help* continuously. It's... how we learn. Completely fair and within bounds.

This hackaday chat is great, thanks for re-sharing it. I loved this: "It's nice if STEM is fun but if I have daughters it will not be optional anymore then spelling properly and taking baths."

I think Chinese creativity is something that is not talked about. I think that just under the surface there is such talent waiting.
