I can imagine a lot of parents here that would like that too, if something like that accidentally happened.

Chinese parents fly to Thailand to get IVF for gender selection, we hook kids up to IVs to study, we've got zero Judeo-Christian hangups. American parents: "It would be nice if Timmy didn't have ADHD" Chinese: "Tang needs to be able to explode heads with his mind."pic.twitter.com/33x6SJo1bG
-
Wow! I've never seen that, or heard of it before. Like yeah I knew that it's serious business but wow. In which direction does the gender selection go? Male or female? What's in the IVs?
-
Male of course. As my ex-landlady (who had four boys by artificial insemination) said "having girls is for poor people". Not sure on the IVs. Proprietary I've heard.
-
Wow. Everyday I learn something new about China and realize I have no idea about how it is. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions :)

In Brazil the people search for white genes. I can't express my concern about that eugenic bullshit. That's sad.
-
Chinese will edit themselves paper white given the option.
-
I heard that is a long standing trend in much of Asia. Having to do with appearing higher class. Because the poorer folk were always out in the sun, and thus darker skinned. A hold over from long ago.
-
Yes, it's not actually about wanting to look Caucasian. Lots of studies on that. Predates contact with the West.
-
I've readed China's looking gene manipulation for health problem, to ban things like poliomyelitis and other problems, and upgrade inteligence. But in Brazil (where i born and live), they search for whitening. That's a portrait of my racist country.
-
We'd try for whitening too...

-
Oh, that's sad. Same thing here.

Why is it unethical to pursue CRISPR enhancements? I 100% agree that the real goal was higher IQs. A lot of good can come from mastering this technology.
-
Did I say it was unethical to persue CRISPR enhancements?
-
I thought that's what you were saying, my bad. So specifically this experiment was unethical? The idea of you being against CRISPR enhancement outright was very surprising.
-
The methodology of this particular experiment was unethical. Not research itself.
-
Why so?
-
Because it could lead to this kids being born with genetic defects. Shit, this article shows that we barely know anything about this experiment alone. Research like this will literally take generations of testing, even if any country makes such invasive human experiments legal.
-
You can't make something legal if it hasn't first been made illegal.
-
Since when testing unapproved medication on humans(let alone pregnant ones) legal? Gene editing may be a grayish area in general, but human experiments are not.
