Anyone who disagrees should read Milton Friedman. By focusing on social issues, companies are not fulfilling their fiduciary duty to shareholders; wealth maximization. By doing that, society becomes worse off because less wealth is created and indirectly spread to it.

Oh of course a company is going to have social stances. It helps them create a target audience. I love America and its freedoms. So, think of the money I will save from not buying Ben and Jerrys. Its helpful to know their social stances.

They can have any "stance" they want on anything just like the rest of us. We just shouldn't care about it.

That's ridiculous, ignoring market drivers and context for what--some presumptuous, canned, and socially neutral relationship with customers? For some apolitical virtue signalling at the expense of value, satisfaction, marketability, and profit? So do business with drug dealers?
-
You think they should have stances on social issues?
-
Absolutely. Business is about relationships. Between a company and its resources, capital, supply chain, internal/external customers, its product, its place in the world--it has an inherit social context. Branding benefits from it and must confront it. Loyalty builds upon it.

Yes. If they’re one of those crazy “socially woke” companies like Starbucks I’d have to ask for combat pay to endure the demeaning and exhausting unconscious bias training.
