Today marks the anniversary of the Dred Scott decision. As we look back on how far we have come, it is important also to note that we can continue to improve. The Declaration of Independence clearly lays out where our rights and freedoms come from:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."
