Anxiety is an illness. It affects many people to an incapacitating degree. When I used to tell people I had anxiety, they didn't understand how severe it was. "Everyone has anxiety" my one friend would say. Anxiety can be absurdly torturous.

Depression doesn't like exercise. No matter how awful I felt, if I did 20 plus minutes of cardio, I ALWAYS felt better after. It may not have been drastically better, but it was enough to keep me coming back. Much love.

At one point, a year or so into my last episode, I came to a pivotal breaking point. Either I would FORCE myself to do normal things or let depression/anxiety continue to win. It was so uncomfortable, but slowly I started to integrate myself back into the world.

Keep doing the things we know that help depression: - Regular exercise - Listening to positive affirmations - Eating a balanced diet - Being in nature - Limiting social media use - Opening up to people you trust - Addressing concurrent issues like addiction

Anxiety loves an understimulated brain. It loves when we sit and give our minds free range to ruminate. What it doesn't love, is when we do things that are intellectually stimulating. I forced myself to join a local writing class during my last episode. Incredibly helpful.

Depression can be extremely lonely. I felt even lonelier in the presence of my friends when I was struggling. Their excitement for life contrasted starkly with my sunken state. Finding a relatable, supportive community changed everything for me.

We don't give ourselves enough credit when were depressed. Negativity blinds us. Take this in: You are an incredibly strong person. It is unbelievably difficult to be you right now. You are a fighter and a survivor.

Please have the compassion to reach out to friends/loved ones suffering with mental illness. You can make a huge impact with a short text. 😊😊

While struggling with anxiety/depression, it can feel as if you are the only one in your position. It is very scary to open up, reach out, and tell your story. But when you do, you will find others who are/were in your shoes. It really helps.

Depression feels unfair. I used to think "why me?" I saw my friends fluently progressing into adulthood. I felt cursed. Depression narrows the mind. We become selfish. Its not our fault. It just happens. Just know and believe you'll beat this thing.

Our brains are uniquely wired. Revovering from anxiety will likely be a little different for you than someone else. That's why there are so many medications, forms of therapy, etc. Be resourceful and find what works for you. You will find relief. Stay strong.

I am not a mental health professional. I am a former sufferer who has his symptoms under control and dedicate my time to providing insight from my experience. I try and write to my former self, in the heat of my battle with anxiety/depression. I hope it helps. Much love.

Depression/anxiety WILL BE the most difficult thing I will ever experience. It will also be the most important. Being broken isn't the end. It's the beginning of something much greater. Believe you will recover.
