You didn’t think forgiveness should come before someone asks for it? Is forgiveness for them or is it for you? Just FYI I agree behavior should change

Aye man, we’re all figuring out life before we die. Who knows. What I do know? Parents for far 2 long have been protected by “obey/respect thy mom/dad” while doing horrific shit to their children 4 far 2 long. Let them do the heavy lifting in healing the bonds w/adult children.

People can choose to forgive if they want, but nobody is entitled to be forgiven;especially if they haven’t shown remorse for their actions and desire to do better.

Once you realize that your parents are literally just like you, young adults who had kids & most of them had no idea what they were doing but dealing with their own truama and making sure you don’t die! You see them in a different light and forgiveness comes naturally

-
I’m hoping forgiveness comes naturally because, 1, those parents realized the error in their ways & 2, they don’t want you to repeat the same cycles they taught you & want better for you. That comes with being vulnerable w/your children & doing better.

While working in group homes in LA/ATL, I realized this statement to be true. I was conditioned to tell the youth in the homes about forgiving their parents, but, later understanding that parents needed to apologized for some behaviors.

And change said behavior.
