These states are considering making release of income tax statements a requirement for inclusion on the ballot. What a great idea! Should have already been a requirement.

I think we now realize there should be a lot of requirements. Released taxes, if elected you MUST divest yourself of business interests, basic iq test, test for constitution knowledge.
-
The ability to qualify for a security clearance like the rest of us should def be on that list.

Then there is no fucking way that shithole can win - SAY IT!!!

Evangelical that elected Trump are 15% of the population. Practicing christians are 32%. People who want biblical law support Trump and his biblical law judges. The very vocal minority seems to be winning politically, but shrinking in numbers.
-
Because of voter suppression tactics and gerrymandering. That's why even local elections are important.

... which is why he stacked the Supreme Court with his cronies. How do you think they will rule on the inevitable court challenge?
The only way to defeat the tyrant Cheeto is impeachment, or a massive massive Dem turnout in 2020. -
The thing is the US constitution is extremely clear that each state is perfectly free to set its own election regulations.
-
Also perfectly clear that SCOTUS gets the final say on how to interpret the Constitution.
That said, I’m a huge fan of a new ‘Bill of Rights’ added as Constitutional amendments. Let’s make Presidential tax returns one of them. -
Yes and no. When it comes to states rights on election regulations SCOTUS generally refuses to touch it.
-
Comforting. Let's not forget Bush v. Gore where SCOTUS tipped the scales and helped elect Bush. Also, remember that Kavanaugh has to pay for his seat which McConnel/Trump gave him. I don't expect "justice" here. Watch how quickly the
@GOP argues AGAINST State's rights. -
True, however it requires 4 justices I think to agree to hear a case, and if only Kavanaugh and Thomas agree...
-
+ Gorsuch/Roberts and boom. Scholars have strong opinions but it's not clear to anyone *how far* States can go to limit ballot access. Therefore it falls to a SCOTUS that I really don't trust. My final point here: let's do it, but we can't rely on a tax-returns strategy.

Gorsuch is a reasonable possibility, but Roberts I doubt. He’s far too strict a letter of the law type of jurist.
