sanders might be able to surge to first nationally, but just based on how the needle moves, warren, bloomberg and buttigieg almost certainly can't. (not trying to diss warren, it's just the numbers.) the primaries are underway.

iowa is usually a good predictor for the country, but in this case, it would be an outlier. he might genuinely win iowa, but pete buttigieg surging from 6% nationally to 51% nationally overnight is almost impossible. he'll definitely get a bump, but he's not the nominee.

that's the thing. buttigieg is somewhat popular in iowa and new hampshire but not nationally. he's fifth nationally, and it's not even close. unless he wins iowa and the entire country changes their mind about him overnight, he can't win the nomination.

sanders is presently leading in the popular vote. buttigieg is leading among delegates because of some coin tosses replacing our democracy.

lol again 62% of the votes have been reported, but msnbc is listing it as 95%. when called on it by someone at the table who wasn't playing ball, the producers claimed to have no idea where that number came from. god, i hate this.

It doesn't QUITE work this way, but if you divide the current delegate percentages by Iowa's 41 delegates, here are the current numbers: Buttigieg 11 delegates Bernie 10 delegates Warren 8 delegates Biden 6 delegates Klobuchar 5 delegates. You need 1,990 to win.

Yeah. Partial data seems worse than no data, particularly if we don’t know how representative the precincts are!

After much deliberation, I have decided that I will not use my presence at a state ceremony to normalize Trump’s lawless conduct & subversion of the Constitution. None of this is normal, and I will not legitimize it. Consequently, I will not be attending the State of the Union.

As of right now in the Iowa Caucus count, Bernie Sanders is ahead in the popular vote, and yet Pete Buttigieg leads in delegates. That is called a broken system.

Imagine being called “scum”, “fake” and “enemies of the people” by this president and then turning up for a pre-SOTU, off the record, lunch with him. Especially as your fellow anchors from CNN are excluded! I expect nothing from Fox News but shame on the rest of them. Shame.

This is utterly disgraceful. And for Rand to blame his own misconduct on the Chief Justice is disgraceful as well.

The spiked Ann Selzer poll: Sanders 22% Warren 18% Buttigieg 16% Biden 13% Actual first alignment results (62% reporting): Sanders 24% Buttigieg 21% Warren 19% Biden 15% A little low on Buttigieg but for a caucus poll, that's *really* good.
