Same here. I’m also sick of the left being framed as the most illiberal side.

a lot of people on the 'left' hand it to them too which sucks. like dankula's case for example- everyone who supported him was labeled right wing by people on the left. it looks like the right basically owns the concept of free speech and are the only people who care.

"Everyone who supported him" really? I don't think that fair, but you also can't ignore that he is buddy buddy with Tommy Robinson, Lauren Southern, Britt Pettibone etc. That kinda pushes any Leftists away & muddies the waters around everyone else who wants to defend him. :\

it pushes them away because they're obsessed with purity testing and guilt by association. the principle and issue at hand should be MUCH more important.

purity testing. lol.
When it comes to pieces of garbage like Tommy Robinson and Pettibone and Lauren southern, I consider it more like sewage disposal, and that is much more important.1 reply 1 retweet 2 likes -
i mean purity testing of people like dankula because those people supported his fight. pay attention.

Wait, it isn't because they support him off in the distance. It's because he is friends with them, makes videos with them, hangs out with them, & he defends them.

but it's not even about him though. the point is he literally got arrested for making fun of nazis. for making a youtube video. why does anything else matter? why should you care who he talks to in order to support him? i don't get it.

Right, I don't agree with him being arrested or convicted. I think his joke was kinda funny, the "gas the Jews" shit went too far, but I don't think he should have been arrested. The problem is that if you aren't careful you help the Far Right by pushing their narrative.

that i agree with and i've become careful of not doing myself. i think free speech is a universal thing though. not a left or right issue. just i don't think some idiots champion it should stop others from championing it as well.

Sure, I can see your point of view, I'm just not going to say to people
"Hey I know this guy has done a lot to alienate you & make you feel unwelcome, but you really should do a lot of work to help him anyway."
Idk, it's messy, which makes people not want to touch it

i understand it's just frustrating seeing some people smear literally everyone who supports him as right wing or even nazis. it's exhausting. and the "freeze peach" meme and stuff. i feel like it's literally handing over the entire concept to the right wing which isn't good.

Have people been smearing literally everyone? Like no one has smeared me for it, idk maybe you're just being hyperbolic(but that's kinda pushing the Far Rights everyone on the Left calls everyone on the Right a Nazi narrative, just sayin) But yeah handing it over is bad.
