Yeah, this is why when we define it this way, with a threshold of 4 shot (not necessarily killed, which is a huge critical distinction), the number of incidents balloons enormously, on account of gang violence where drive-by's with indiscriminate bullet spray are common.

Other organizations have defined mass shootings to require 3 or more not merely shot, but shot and killed. I believe the FBI had defined them this way for a while, so their data showed much lower numbers of incidents. MotherJones used either that or similar definition

Thanks for that RD! A few questions to think about .why is 4 the number that turns an incident into a mass shooting. .does gang violence, drug wars, domestic problems, and school shootings all the same problem with the same solution? Thats solution not reduction
