Yeah, but I don't think that most people think "Oh hey there aren't many women there. That gives me an edge." When any one group is the vast majority of a genre ppl just assume that it's the norm, which discourages outsiders from coming in.

There is also the problem of women getting WAY more hate on the internet especially when they come into an area that though of a male dominated e.g. video games.

... demographics, I'd say it definitely depends on the woman, and would need proof that the apprehension is due to that rather than just a lack of interest. And while this is an old figure, according to PEW, online harassment between the genders is relatively the same.

Well I mean it's a general phenomenon that we see in a lot places that are male dominated e.g. STEM. A lot of women feel like they don't belong in the "boys club". Do you have a link to that? Because I'm pretty sure that harassment towards women is largely different.
