I agree that it isn't because Men & Women/Whites & Minorities get paid a different wage for each hour worked in the same position(in most cases, when it comes to negotiable wages there is a difference) but you're also being disingenuous Why do they choose different career paths?

Women and Men have different interests and this is also true in most societies to different degrees. Women have higher levels of openness and low levels of disagreableness. This leads to them going into caring professions that do not pay as much and not negotiating as much

These psychological differences also is why they go more into humanities which rarely pays more than Stem which requires different psychology to be interested in

I doubt it is because society totally. We have many programs that try and encourage women into stem and many Silicon Valley people who want more gender diversity but women aren't interested and it isn't a problem. They don't have to be interested. They can if they want

Well first off I'm talking about the gap in both race & sex. Secondly, "They don't have to be interested if they don't want to be" is a cop-out. You're ignorant long lasting & deep seeded social problems that people grow up with. A few programs can't be expected to undo that.

So the issue here to you is merely the social element and you admit that the wage gap is not caused by a conspiratorial discrimination of employers. It doesn't matter what people are interested in and you shouldn't try and force women into stem if they don't want to

would you consider low self-esteem and judging yourself worse at... lets say math, than you actually are- because society consider girls to be worse - social barrier? Ppl generally don't go for fields they think they are not good at, even if they are interested.

I'm a female & know for a fact that I'm shit at math, but where the hell in society are girls being told they can't be good at math or science because they're female? I know men are discouraged from taking caregiver jobs, like with nursing.

you might wanna look up research with priming, gender, psychology keywords... girls not only perform worse but even "remember" their last year's test scores to be lower when reminded of their gender. It's not something you're actually aware of. interesting stuff

Unless you can point to a cause of this then there is nothing anyone can do. Maybe women in general face self esteem issues in academics. But unless you can point to a specific cause there is nothing we can do

Dude, this is pathetic. What is it with you people & demanding that societal pressures & expectations have no impact on people? There are many examples of this phenomenon. http://reuters.com/article/amp/idUSN2242207920070524 … http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2012/06/14/stem_gender_gap_research_on_telling_girls_they_re_bad_at_math_.html …

I merely said nothing is to be done unless you give a specific case of sexism
