They're opinions protected by law, but they can also, under some circumstances, amount to targeted harassment. "Cathy Young is an evil bitch" is an opinion protected by law, but if someone repeatedly leaves it on my voice mail, I can have them arrested.

As a cop I would never ARREST somebody for phone harassment like that and I find this ironic as a libertarian you stampede towards arrest. It's a misdemeanor. Issue a summons NOT make an arrest and leave to courts.also you cannot MAKE a cop arrest somebody. You can make a

Complaint. With very rare exception , discretion to physically arrest rests with cop. Furthermore with a few exceptions a misdemeanor not committed in a cops presence is not physically arrestable anyway

I am aware of that. My point is Cathy (and ironically many reasonoids) equate criminal process with ARREST. And think cops job is to ARREST people.its a necessary at times but not a big %age of my job and to be exercised with discretion.but over and over they talk of ARREST

Even many nonviolent felonies we handle through referring case to prosecutors without physical arrest. I have about 20 factors I consider when deciding whether to arrest GIVEN that most past misdemeanors are not arrestable btw
