I don’t think we have to pretend they’re equivalent to recognize that they’re both problems, and discussing alternatives to address both sounds like a good idea to me.

like I’d prefer the less lethal social workers to cops, but if more radical changes to these systems can more directly tackle these issues, I don’t see why we shouldn’t at least discuss those kinds of changes.

i am a leftist who is extremely tired with policy and attitudes being built on the feels of a marginalised group rather than substantive data-driven solutions. it sounds harsh putting it like that but like. "the people just don't TRUST social workers" is... irrational?

it just doesn't follow. "every social worker i know sucks so they must must pose the same socioeconomic threat as the militarised state gangs". i'd love to be more charitable but to me this is bernie or bust logic applied to policy
