The whole “let’s replace cops with social workers” thing really reveals the blind spots that liberals or even leftists from nicer backgrounds have. Social workers are often not trusted in poor communities and have the same power trip issues that cops have.

Probably not good to be debating which power trip we want

Everyone who is in a position of power can have a power trip

No just separated from their families or sectioned ie imprisoned and drugged against your will because of something they suspect you might do...

Soooo, not murdering people then? Look, they are underfunded & probably don't have enough oversite. No one is saying that social workers are perfect, there are defiantly reforms that can be done. But the idea that they aren't better suited to handle things than cops is dumb

No but they will end with social workers being shot. Cops confront vile, violent people everyday, good luck to the unarmed social workers.

While it's not murder, there's a very well documented issue of social workers separating Indigenous peoples from their families for dubious reasons. Granted this does sometimes result in murder once an Indigenous child is forced into an abusive foster family.

Here's a historical example although this behaviour continues in some communities: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixties_Scoop#:~:text=The%20Sixties%20Scoop%20refers%20to,and%20persisted%20into%20the%201980s ….
