i don't know for sure but I have a hunch that the reason this is so spot-on is because the original animators speed-ramped their reference footage for pacing and dynamism, meaning the art form has now come full circle

Right, well I think that artists use keyframes, which strong poses with an arch of motion, & everything between those keyframes is spread up.
