I don't know who says that it wouldn't work on humans. Seems like a weird point to make, but he is right. If you want to breed X trait in humans you could do it. It would just be deeply unethical.

It doesn't really even work in the examples he gives. All the animals mentioned have experienced detrimental side effects to having something 'fixed'. They've improved in a way relevant to our use for them but overall most have problems that outweigh the result from their pov.

His point was likely an example of why we should separate (politics, ideology, and morality) from empirical questions in science. Eugenics was likely just the example as it's something we all agree is morally deplorable.

Except we shouldn’t divorce morality and politics from science. We can’t, because they’re a fundamental part of our society and human existence. Humans can’t do science without being human. Context and situation always matter (see Haraway)

Yeah but why would he mention that like it's news? He wants to dog whistle and then act all surprised when people point out that it's monstrous. "Goodness! People are so EMOTIONAL"

Eugenics isn't about x trait, eugenics is about a nebulous "better."

Science does not support the work or conclusions of Galton & Eugenicists who followed him Dawkins is wrong that Eugenics was or is fact based science & that its' refutation is ideological Even without the facts & history of Eugenics his tweets are gross & misleading

His analogy comparing Eugenics, its' history which he appears to know nothing, to one of simple animal husbandry shows Dawkins has an ability to completely misapprehend topics that are even related to his own narrow field of expertise.

Ethics aside, it doesn't work in humans. Only certain species can be "domesticated" and selectively bred without fighting back or succumbing to stress, and primates (which we are) do very poorly in captivity. Even if some dystopian state tried it, the results would be...bad.

Eugenics was invented by and practiced in the US already, in the form of "black people need permission to breed, no interbreeding and sterilize the disabled" and it inspired Hitler, so, it had been done and it's unethical, so ideas like his are still dangerous
