I'll also add that I was openly agnostic. And my family had spent about $250,000 on private, for-profit rehab centers. The salvation army literally saved my life. I wandered in off the street, a suicidal, homeless, drug addict. They took me in, clothed me, fed me, and saved me.

4 years later, I am still sober, still agnostic and getting ready to graduate with a computer science degree. ( They paid for my GED, arranged my entrance into community college, helped me find my first apartment, furnished that apartment, and I still go back to help new guys.

I'm glad that you got help & that things worked out for you. I just think it would be good if the Salvation Army offered those same resources to everyone at EVERY location instead of it being a luck of the draw

It costs millions of dollars to build those centers. They just built a women's shelter in 2018. The men's shelter was built in 1992. The men's shelter houses 150, women's 25. I don't think it's realistic to expect them to build a separate facility for less than 1% of the pop.

Or just let women & gays into the shelters that already exist

Like I said, thousands on the waiting list to get in a facility that houses 150. You have to be able to fit into a group of 150 guys and not cause any waves. A trans person would definitely cause waves. And truth is, the black guys would have the biggest problem with it.

Look dude, I'm just trying to give you a first hand perspective. You're commenting on admission processes in an organization you know nothing about. But instead of ask why trans people wouldn't fit in, you give me some racist hypothetical question.

So if Black people wouldn't "fit in" should the shelter leave them out in the cold to freeze to death? It's a simple question.

Yes, and they do it every day. To people of every race and sex. They also deny entry to mentally ill people and people with certain health problems.

Every day they reject Black people because the people inside would freak out? Wow! They have bigger problems than I thought!
