They saved my life. I went through a 1 year, residential, free rehab program with them. Several of the 150 men that I lived with were openly gay. The salvation army is not one big mega church, and each geographic area is run more or less autonomously.

I'll also add that I was openly agnostic. And my family had spent about $250,000 on private, for-profit rehab centers. The salvation army literally saved my life. I wandered in off the street, a suicidal, homeless, drug addict. They took me in, clothed me, fed me, and saved me.

Yes, it would be better if ALL of the homeless and displaced people they help would languish and/or die. The help they provide is and always has been wrong. Thoughtful take.
