This is a real dumb argument. A fry cook "works harder" than a Doctor too. Hard labor isn't the criteria for wages, it's your skills & the demand for those skills. The idea of "skilled" and "unskilled" labor is an ideological construction. You've used the example of coding as an example of a high-value skill, but it's become ubiquitous in education in order to DEVALUE that labor. Every job requires an understanding as to its own logistics.

if i were a leftist i would point out that marx and engles advocated the abolition of classes, not equality of opportunity or outcome. they were explicit that in the early and middle stages of communism people would have to be compensated unequally according to skill
