Yeah, they all seem to think you want to get rid of these movies instead of pointing out that there are known downsides to them that a lot of people would prefer to gloss over

The replies to that tweet imply that there is one "correct" interpretation of a piece of art, and everyone who interprets that art in a way different from that is wrong.

The people who watch fight club and think "Tyler Durden good" are interpreting the film in a way I, and the creator, would disagree with, but it's still interesting to examine why they came to that interpretation.

The movies are good, The characters within these movies are deliberate bad guys; please stop idolizing them. It's bizarre how people miss this point entirely and think any critical analysis is the same as calling a boycott.

This is a problem with portraying extremists as badass but unsympathetic in media. Many people don't look past the badass veneer and just see the muscles, and cool tattoos, and "I don't give a fuck attitude" and that makes the extremism look appealing.
-
I've heard some compelling arguments that the best way to deride extremists, is to present them in an absurdist and comedic way rather than the Fight Club or American History X way. Because that strips them of their allure and presents them as undeniably the clowns that they are.

Incels just want a hero that will let them blame everyone else for their problems rather than their own faults. Who better than a depiction of a literal mass-murderer where it's not his fault that he's a murderer?
