You could deregulate housing. You could allow property owners to build more w/o as many restrictions and the government to sell public lands. This would lower the cost of housing and create more access to housing in cities where people want to live.

Land owners would take advantage of desperate people and create slum cities. There are reasons we have such strict build codes, especially in cities, like fire prevention.

I’m not sure renting and landlords are the problem per se. I’ve heard that in some countries eg Germany rent is affordable and most people do it all their lives, and home ownership isn’t some aspirational market of success.

However, the underlying problem that leftists want to point out is simply that many people pay extortionate amounts of money to have somewhere to live. Destiny’s economic explanation of why it is that way is fine on paper but the problem is still there.
