Wait, but where was someone convicted of something that wasn't hate speech?

Well you got Ahenakew. He was found guilty when he wasn't promoting 'violence'. Just spouting off saying stupid garbage. Which is bad. Which he apologised for. Which IMO wasn't enough. Anti-censors proved in the higher court it wasn't hate speech and got it overturned.

The thing that was special about his case was that he was Native. I've heard many radio show hosts, youtubers who are from Canada say a thousand times worse. And get nothing. Can you guess why?

Wait, but he wasn't convicted. And damn, I'd say that's hate speech 100%. But idk what sentence he was facingpic.twitter.com/E9G4c34zBo

It was the second trial. His conviction was overturned. And yeah he said absolutely horrible things. But that isn't always hate speech. There's a significant difference between an oppressed minority that has faced ethnic cleansing saying bigoted stuff and the majority.

Hmm, idk if that makes a difference to the Jewish person. Like I get that he has less power, but spreading that speech can embolden ppl who have power Like there are degrees. If he was looking at a $50-$1,000 fine, for example, I would probably be okay with him getting convicted

I get your logic. But it would only make sense if people in the majority who say the same type of horrible things all the time (on bigger platforms) got similar treatment. But they don't. And you know they don't. You debate them all the time on this website.

Like your friend pointed out. It takes a LOT for the majority to be convicted under these laws. So much so that it's laughable for them to find it 'oppressive'. So why is it so easy for this non-white guy? Why did he need a court of appeals? Why did he need anti-censors?

Shure, yeah if it isn't being applied equally that's a huge problem. Obviously, people with the largest platform should be a higher priority
